My youngest was a true adventurer. A few years later, when he didn’t catch himself on fire, I had him perform for one of our parties. Everyone loved it. So, I got to thinking…
“Hey, kid. Remember when I taught you how to skateboard? And from there, I taught you how to surf? You owe me… teach me fire spinning.”

What many people do not know is it is very relaxing, almost like meditation.
While performing at parties is always fun, my favorite place is at the beach. Because of the winds, the fire behaves differently and I can be a little more daring.
The fire makes this incredible sound as it moves around your head. The whooshing of the wind adds a soothing element to it.

I am spinning a ball of kevlar attached to a chain with handles, called poi. The balls are soaked in a kerosene-like fluid.

It originated in New Zealand, with the Maori Indians. They use it to increase their flexibility and strength in their hands and arms, as well as improve coordination.

Trust me, when you are holding something that’s on fire, you get better coordination real fast. 😉
