My March Ritual - Beauty After Fifty

I feel we are all beautiful, regardless of age.  Joy radiates from all of us.  Having been blessed with looks in my younger years, I am working towards coming to terms with being older in a graceful way. Some days I do it well, some days I struggle.
One thing I have noticed is that my skin is much drier.  So I've tried to figure out what is the healthiest routine to increase my skin's hydration.  My first step is hydrating from within using either spring or purified bottled water.  At 17 fl oz per bottle, I drink between 5-8 a day.

At first it was difficult, but now that I carrying them with me throughout the day, I have found success.  It makes my skin and my body feel so much better.

I am done spending untold dollars on "skin care products" that are heavily ladened with chemicals.

Immediately after stepping out of the shower, I apply an essential-oil base of Frankincense Resin, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Lavender Flower, Myrrh Resin, Helichrysum Flower and Rose Flower essential oils.

On my deeper wrinkles and spots I apply Myrrh essential oil.  At night I use extra-virgin coconut oil.  It's been about 6 months and friends have remarked on the difference.

While I've never been a heavy make-up user, I do understand it's importance.  What I have found is not so much using less, but changing the colors and tones I use so it makes my face 'softer'.

I have always been a fan of good make-up brushes and find it more important now with more delicate skin.  I also like how fun make-up application is using good brushes.  Makes me feel glamorous.   Do you have one of those bright pink foundation blenders yet.  How fun, I love them.

I've switched my eye palette to be a great color as a matte contour blushes.  I apply it a wee-bit higher on my eye than I used to.  I draw my lips a little outside their natural lip line.  (Did you know Marilyn was doing that back in the fifties. Yep, she was amazing!)

In the height of Texas summers, I will suffice with some self tanner, mascara and lips.

Anything else will be running down my neck as soon as I walk outside.  But the rest of the year, I take the time to look good, which makes me feel good.

I think it's important to continue to embrace beauty as we age.  I just don't get caught up in the must-be-young-to-be-beautiful hype.  I don't want to look young, I want to look like me, beautifully.
