What is this death grip we all have on youth??
I say we strap some concrete shoes on that societal norm. Come on, let's go for a swim.
I can't speak on behalf of every country out there but this is definitely a cultural burden here in the states (and it's heavily biased against women). And it's not like this is anything we haven't heard before. We are all well aware of it.

I know there are some countries where age is revered. The respect the older generations have earned there is upheld and honored. I'd love to hear what stories anyone might have on this because this would be such a wonderful nuance to weave into our culture.
