We are all keenly aware of how unsuccessful most resolutionists are in their January quest to undo all the harm from the holidays.

We've done the research and found out the psychological and even physiological reasons choosing a start date of January is probably what attributes to the failing the most.

For so many it is either the most depressing or the most stressful time of the year.

From missing those far or gone, to cramming so much socializing and family time with so many loved ones into the last 6 weeks of the year.  Let's face it, we are a society of doers and every year we load up our proverbial plate to over-flowing the moment the turkey is acquired for thanksgiving.

Let's start with the easy stuff.  It gets dark way too early in January.

And it is cold, bitterly cold.

During the first 2 weeks of January, you are a one-in-a-million blob of over carbed, under rested, out of shape hordes all hoping and praying for the will power to carry you to February.

Either from coming down too hard from your holiday high or trying to shake off the sadness many experience this time of year, you're struggling.

Looking at the deeper stuff, it doesn't show a glimmer of hope.

A good number of us are Vitamin D deficient by the time January rolls around.

S.A.D., Seasonal Affective disorder is in full swing cratering our winter sadness.

Couple that with the stress of big holidays stacked back to back and you begin to get the idea.

We are literally setting our selves up for a fail that will power cannot off-set.

Shifting our resolutions from January to October accomplishes so much.

In many parts of the country, dreaded day light savings fall back is not in effect yet so we still have some good evening light.

It's just beginning to get cooler or a bit cold, depending on where in the country you are.  you'll have the chance to ease into the freeze over a few months instead of having to suffer as much.

In most places, the seasons are moving into their most color-filled time of year, making being outside a joy.

No one else is working on their resolutions, so the pressure is off and the gyms are not over-loaded.

You are filled with the excitement of the upcoming holidays.  There is inspiration to fit into amazing clothes and looking great for all of the photo-ops and insta-posts.

If you do feel sad over the holidays, you have time to take measures to diminish it with supplements and sunshine exposure.

Also, exercise is known to reduce feelings of depression due to increases of the hormones serotonin and epinephrine.  By starting in October, you'll be in a solid happy place by the time the holidays are over...

This is my new resolution routine.  Get strong, build healthy habits and lose the pounds the holidays will inevitably bring.  Sounds like a recipe for full-blown success!!
