Prada Marfa is a permanent art installation and fake Prada store that has been in the heart of the west Texas desert since 2005.
Originally, the "store” was stocked with real Prada shoes and bags, which were stolen the day the installation was completed.

The sculpture, a one-room, white stucco Prada store replica was erected to criticize the rise of gross consumerism and luxury brand worship.
Prada being Prada, it ended up doing the exact opposite. Visitors flock by the thousands and even leave token locks on the chain link fencing that surrounds 3 sides of the store.

Initial costs were about $120,000 with no additional funds for future repairs. However, mystery fans of the installation continue to slip in unseen to cover up the persistent graffiti (Prada Marfa is, coincidentally, a popular landmark for vandals, too). It keeps every visit interesting.
